DIV SOCAP Spotlight: Alicia Kozuch & Washington Gibaja Tapia, Buen Power Peru
Buen Power Peru (BPP) is a last-mile distributor of affordable, renewable solar lighting products targeting the 22% of the Peruvian population (~6.7 million people)that doesn’t have access to electricity. BPP has validated several innovative distribution channels including rural teachers and radio station distribution hubs,and is now scaling up operations.
Alicia Kozuch is Co-Founder of Buen Power Peru. She has worked as an Engineer for various Fortune 500 companies, as the Marketing Director and Account Manager for multiple international technology businesses, a Consultant for STEM educational programs, and has worked on programs for inner-city children in the US. She has degrees in Engineering, Marketing and Education.
Washington Gibaja Tapia is Co-Founder of Buen Power Peru. Born in Ollantaytambo, Peru on the axis between Machu Picchu and Cusco, Washi has spent almost his entire life as a guide in the sacred archaeological site where he has lived since childhood. Washi speaks fluent Quechua, Spanish, and English, and is very well-connected and well-respected in the communities surrounding Cusco. The author of 4 books, he regularly conducts speaking tours in the US, South America, and Asia on native customs and traditions.
